I went to the National Book Fair in Washington DC this past weekend and I was really disappointed with the representation of paranormal fiction, as in... there was none. It was non-existent! It's not like the genre is new. Vampires, werewolves, demons and fae have been around for centuries. The novelization has evolved from horror stories, to fairy tales, to romance, to science fiction and even to urban fantasy. And let's not forget that YA is a fairly huge market right now. These changes stem not only from what the author creates, but what the reader wants. Why is paranormal fiction not taken as seriously as "mainstream" fiction? It just seems to me that these larger book fairs are eliminating a really big market by not recognizing the the paranormal world.
Have you noticed the same thing? Do you agree or disagree with the idea that paranormal fiction is not represented enough? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thank you! I so agree. Paranormal doesn't appear to be taken seriously and I've been reading it for decades! At the conferences I go to I hear professionals say this is just a trend (for YA, which I disagree with, it's here to stay) and something else will be the next "hot" thing. I always thought it was a genre with a ton of authors and fans:)
yep. suspense, love it!!!!!< but paranormal, really not out.. ive been takin pics of books in all kinds of stores, and only a few are paranorals
