Voivode actually translates closer to warrior-prince, or warlord. It's a slavic term that means governor, but in English came to be known as Prince or Duke; and then because of Bram Stoker, Count.
I should mention, all the term definitions come directly from THE ANNOTATED DRACULA by Leonard Wolf.
