Review: Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett

This review is more like a little blurb, mostly because my thoughts on his book are not easily explained, and also because I don't want to spoil the book in any way so I need to be careful. I have never read any of the Discworld books before and although they are all part of an existing series, you can read them independently. It's not as good that way (I'm one that wants to read chronologically) but it can be done.

This book is laugh out loud funny and one thing is certain...Terry Pratchett is one of the wittiest writers I've ever read! The writing style reminds me of a favorite movie, Young Frankenstein, and at one point I think I snorted Pepsi from my nose. My recommendation: Go back to the beginning and read the entire series. At least that's what I'm doing!

Here's just a taste of that clever dialogue:

“Never seen that before,” said a wine waiter beside her.

“Seen what before?”

“Seen his lordship drinking. He doesn't even drink wine.”

Glenda looked at the skinny black figure and said, enunciating carefully,” When you say he does not drink wine, do you mean he does not drink wine, or he does not drink...wine?”

“He doesn't have a bloody drink. That's all I'm saying. That's Lord Vetinari, that is. He's got ears everywhere.”

"I can only see two, but he's quite handsome, in a way.”

Wicked sense of humor and I am now on the hunt for the other Discworld books!

*Other books in the series can be found at Terry Pratchett's website.
*This book was sent to me by the publishers for the express purpose of being reviewed.
*Reviewed by Anna Dougherty for Bite Club.

You haven't read in the Discworld series before? Oh! You have so many awesome reads waiting for you. I love Hogfather, too. Any of them with Nanny Ogg are hilarious, but anything, really, by Pratchett is a must read

I know, right! I'm way behind! The good news is that in some weird coincidence I happened to be talking to one of the teachers were I work and he mentioned that this series at the same time that I pulled this book out of my bag...so we swapped and I am now reading the first book, The Color of Magic. He warned that the first 3 books are a bit slow but they only get better as you go along.

I love the luggage! You'll read about that in the first book. I just recently bagged up all my Pratchett books because I needed bookshelf space. They took up one and a half shelves! Just don't know where to stow them now. I need more book shelves!

Happy Thanksgiving!
