Of course I'm disappointed a new episode won't be shown until December 2nd... but it does give me a chance to recap the series and toss in a few spoilers as they come out....

~Plan B~
Elena and Stefan wake up together in her bed while across town Katherine and Mason are in bed together. Jeremy offers to help Damon get rid of Katherine. Preparations get underway for the masquerade ball at the Lockwood mansion and Damon and Stefan ask Bonnie to help them stop Mason. Caroline tries to bond with her mother while she’s locked up downstairs at the Salvatore house. But later Caroline compels her mom to forget that she’s a vampire. Bonnie agrees to help Damon and Stefan by incapacitates Mason. Damon then stuffs him into a truck and takes him home to torture him. Mason believes that Katherine loves him and Damon tells Mason that Katherine doesn’t love anyone but herself. Bonnie reads Mason and discovers that the moonstone is hidden in a well. Stefan goes to find it and finds the well full of vervain. Caroline hears Elena and Stefan screaming and helps Elena pull Stefan from the well. Elena retrieves the moonstone from the well.
Damon ends up ripping Mason’s heart from his chest and then uses Mason’s cell phone to call Katherine and tell him that he’s killed Mason. She tells him that he’s made a huge mistake and asks him if he didn’t’ think she had a plan b, a plan C, etc. Katherine makes a phone call to Elena’s house and then Jenna is found to have been compelled by Katherine and is forced to stab herself as Katherine taunts Elena. Elena decides to break up with Stefan for good. Damon apologizes and says he shouldn’t have rattled Katherine’s cage. Katherine compels Matt to attack Tyler and keep on attacking him until Tyler kills him so that it will trigger the curse.
~Masquerade~
Stefan, Damon, Bonnie, Jeremy, Alaric, and Caroline team up and form a plan to kill Katherine at the masquerade ball. Jenna comes home from the hospital and Alaric agrees to keep Elena in the house while the group traps and kills Katherine. Katherine is visited by a witch named Lucy, who is to help her retrieve the moonstone from Stefan and Damon. At the ball, Katherine pretends to be Elena and threatens to kill partygoers if she doesn't get the moonstone. Bonnie senses that Lucy is a witch.
Matt, Tyler, and Sara are drinking and partying in a room at the ball when Matt under Katherine's compulsion begins taunting Tyler about his father and tries to attack him Caroline hears them and breaks up the fight. Sara- who is also being compelled- stabs Tyler with a knife, and he accidentally slams her into a desk, killing her. His eyes turn yellow, showing that the curse has been triggered.
Stefan and Damon trap Katherine in a room that Bonnie has spelled to prevent Katherine from leaving it. Meanwhile, Elena becomes suspicious and goes to the ball to investigate. Stefan and Damon try to kill Katherine but stop when Jeremy alerts them that they are killing Elena too. Katherine tells them she had Lucy cast a spell tying her and Elena together. Bonnie convinces Lucy to reverse the spell and help them. Lucy helps them and incapacitates Katherine. Lucy is Bonnie's cousin and she promises that she’ll see Bonnie again. Elena recovers from her wounds but refuses to get back with Stefan, saying she wants to feel that she and her family are safe first. Damon traps Katherine in the underground tomb. Before he seals the tomb, she pleads with him, saying that Elena is in danger, but he walks away. As Elena heads home, she is kidnapped by a masked stranger, who grabs her and covers her mouth while she screams.
~Rose~
Elena's kidnapper puts her in to the back of an SUV. Jeremy realizes Elena didn't come home last night and tells Stefan. Elena is taken to a large, abandoned house a vampire named Trevor. Rose, another vampire and slaps Elena unconscious after telling her to stay quiet. At school Tyler is trying to deal with the aftermath of Sara's death, and he attempts to get Caroline to tell him what she knows about his abilities. Se finally reveals that she’s not a werewolf like him but a vampire. She doesn’t reveal the truth about Stefan and Damon and swears him to secrecy. Elena overhears Rose and Trevor, who are arguing about a vampire named Elijah. Bonnie casts a location spell using Jeremy's blood and then Stefan and Damon set off to find her. 300 miles away Elena tries to get information out of Rose, who tells her Elijah is one of 'the originals.’ Elijah needs Elena, who is a Petrova doppelganger and the key to breaking the curse. Trevor reveals that he is the one who helped Katherine escape her fate, and he and Rose have been running from the originals ever since.
Elijah arrives, and Rose offers him Elena in exchange for their lives. Elijah agrees, but decides to decapitate Trevor. Elena tries to stall Elijah, saying she knows where the moonstone is. Elijah rips off her vervain necklace and compels her to tell him its and Katherine's location. Stefan and Damon arrive and kill Elijah. Rose finds Stefan at home and tells him the originals will hunt Elena down and they are doing it for Klaus. Elena returns home and is reunited with Bonnie and Jeremy. She finds Damon waiting on her in her room with her vervain necklace. Before he gives it back, he tells Elena he loves her but that he doesn't deserve her and can't be selfish about her. He then compels Elena to forget what he has said and leaves. Back at the abandoned house, Elijah opens his eyes and pulls the stake out of his body and drops it to the floor.
~Katerina~
The episode flashes back to Bulgaria 1490, and Katherine giving birth to a baby girl. Her parents take the baby away without letting Katherine hold the child. Back in present time, Elena skips school and employs Caroline to open the tomb and send Caroline off to distract Stefan. Elena offers Katherine a bottle of blood in exchange for the truth about the doppelgängers and the Petrova curse. Katherine tells Elena that she was banished to England where she met Klaus. When she found out what he was and what he wanted she ran like hell. Trevor, who had fallen in love with her, helped her escape. She became a vampire to escape Klaus. She says a dopplegänger from the Petrova line can be used to break the curse and Elena, as Katherine's descendant, is the current Petrova dopplegänger.
Katherine came back to Mystic Falls to offer Klaus what he needed to break the curse: the dopplegänger (Elena), the moonstone, a witch (Bonnie), a werewolf (now Tyler), and a vampire (Caroline). She hoped that in exchange, Klaus wouldn’t kill her. “Better you die than I” Stefan finds Elena talking to Katherine and tells her not to believe anything Katherine says because Katherine just wants her freedom and that’s she a psychotic bitch. Katherine laughs and tells Stefan, “Freedom? Why do I want my freedom? I’m in a tomb that no other vampire will enter because they can’t get out. Right now I’m the safest psychotic bitch in town.”
While Elena was dragging information out of Katherine, Bonnie and Jeremy go to play pool at the Mystic Grille, where Bonnie meets a warlock and his dad. Luca apologizes Bonnie and tells her that he and his dad just want to fit in. Jeremy sees the connection between Luca and Bonnie and just leaves by himself. Damon and Rose go to meet a friend of hers and they try to find out more information about Klaus. Meanwhile outside the café, Elijah is watching them and listening. Back at the Salvatore house Rose and Damon trade barbs about turning off their emotions and end up having sex. At the end of this episode it is reveals that Luca’s father is in cahoots with Elijah.
