Review: Green Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells

Book description:

The clock is ticking for Sabina Kane. Her sister has been kidnapped by her grandmother, the Dark Races are on the brink of war, and a mysterious order is manipulating everyone behind the scenes.

Working on information provided by an unlikely ally, Sabina and her trusty sidekicks–a sexy mage named Adam Lazarus and Giguhl, a Mischief demon–head to New Orleans to begin the hunt for her sister. Once there, they must contend with belligerent werewolves, magic-wielding vampires and–perhaps most frightening of all–humans.

But as much as Sabina is focused on surviving the present, the past won’t be ignored. Before she can save those she cares about most, she must save herself from the ghosts of her past.

Review:

Hands down the best part about any Sabina Kane book is the snarkalicious dialogue and the next best thing is the variety of relationships between this wild bunch of characters. Add in that Green-Eyed Demon is set in New Orleans and you get three of my favorite things! This book was just flat out fun to read and in lieu of my usual breakdown of characters, plot, and mythology I thought I would show you why I was laughing out loud throughout most of this book.

Here are just a few of the zingers that had me rolling, along with the warning that they may be rude and crude, and/or might contain enough colorful cursing to make a sailor blush. Not bothered...read on:

"Bael's balls, can we get out of here already? This alley smells like Satan's asshole." ~Giguhl

"Adam," I said, matching his tone. "He's a godsdamned vampire owl from the depths of the underworld. Given the chance, he'd drain each of us dry and pluck out our eyes with his razorlike beak. So, no, I'm not particularly worried about stowing his cage in a broken refrigerator. Especially if it means we get a decent night's sleep." ~Sabina

"But do you think you could refrain from lecturing me about my many and varied personality deficits for five minutes so I can go buy some godsdamned chicken feet?" ~Sabina

"Darlin', us Cajuns eat everything from the rooter to the tooter." ~Alodius, the colorful butcher that Sabina visits to get blood while staying in New Orleans

*Depends," Adam began. "In your hallucination is the lead singer of Necrospank 5000 watching a midget give his drummer a golden shower?" ~Adam

Awesome. As Giguhl would say...way better than the Temptation channel! And those are just a small sample of what I had marked in my Kindle. At some point I had to stop myself because I was doing more bookmarking than I was reading. Seriously, some scenes are just that funny. One of my favorite scenes involves Brooks, a fae drag queen, giving Giguhl, the mischief demon, advice on how to express his emotions to Sabina. And when they all see Brooks perform for the first time. Good times.

Green-Eyed Demon has something for everybody with enough plot twists to keep you guessing, kickass action galore, and even some hanky panky. Loved that the setting was New Orleans, always a good choice for a paranormal romp, and in this case very authentic with the food, entertainment and tourists. Just go read the book!!

Other books in the series:

Red-Headed Stepchild

Mage in Black
Green-Eyed Demon

and next up

Silver-Tongued Devil

Jaye Wells website and blog can be found here. Check it out...she offers some seriously cool swag for contests (I'm not jealous or anything...really) and she deals in cake (you'd have to read her post from February 28th).
