Book Description:
Although Nina Decker's father is one hundred percent human, her mother is not. She belongs to an ancient and rare race of people called the fae. But these fae are not those written about in fairytales, with pretty gossamer wings and fairy dust, no they are sinister, malevolent and unkind, dwelling in another realm called Nightfall. More prone to destroy than to create. Abandoned at the age of ten, to be raised by her father, Nina has never forgiven her mother for that or for ruining her father. A man of only sixty, he appears to be closer to eighty with a frail body and mind. He's been fae-struck and is slowly fading away to nothing. This is one of the reasons why Nina has never gotten too close to any one man. She doesn't want to seal his fate like her father's has been.
But she can't deny her fiery connection to Severin Saint Morgan, a sexy as hell werewolf and the alpha of the Vancouver wolf pack. He's an Australian immigrant working at the university as an associate professor, and the publicized face of the werewolf species. He makes her blood boil with desire and makes her tremble with fear. But its only when her mother reappears with startling revelations about an upcoming war between the fae and the werewolves that Nina realizes that she may be a pawn for both sides.
My Review:
What? I'm done already? But I was just getting to the good stuff! This should have been a full length book!! The world of Nightfall is so tempting and Glimmer only touches on the complicated and treacherous world of the fae. And we barely scratched the surface on the electrifying attraction between Nina and Severin. The sexual tension started out as a slow, but instant simmer and only got hotter as the story moves on. I know they have something more and I'd like to see that avenue explored in full detail. Nina is just coming into her fae abilities, finally starting to embrace more of her heritage and still has so much to learn. She's that perfect mix of smart and capable combined with feminine vulnerability. Severin is the ultra hot alpha that literally plops naked in Nina's path one night and has risked the anger of his pack to be with her. He has some serious secrets lurking in his closet and I want to know what they are. They make for a dynamic couple and I am hopeful that the ending of the book means that we will definitely get more. Hopefully soon!

I have always been fascinated with mythology. Celtic mythology in particular. Probably my Irish roots calling to me. I love reading about the Druids, Merlin and King Arthur, Stonehenge, Tristan and Isolde, and of course all the stories about faeries, dwarves and elves. It’s this fascination that fuelled my passion to write my urban fantasy GLIMMER.
In my book though, the faeries are anything but winged whimsical creatures. No in my book, they are dark and dangerous and more prone to destroy than create. And at its center is a woman name Nina who is half fae-half human and trying to come to terms with her dark alien side. I love messing around with the concept of duality. And Glimmer is definitely that.
The world I created relies a lot on my love of Brian Froud’s artwork and the innovative mind of Guillermo del Toro. Both creative geniuses in my opinion. Froud’s faeries have this alienness about them. They aren’t the cute playful version we’ve all grown up with. Tinker Bell won’t get no play here. Del Toro’s creatures from Pan’s Labyrinth and Hell Boy movies are a combination of the grotesque and the beautiful. And that’s how I wanted to portray the fae in my world of Glimmer. Prince Nuada would fit in just fine in my book.
"Vivi Anna's smart and always unique take on urban fantasy makes her a must read!" — Lauren Dane, author of Inside Out "GLIMMER rocks in so many ways! Nina and Severin are one hell of a sexy couple and stand out in a world that's rich with detail, danger and intrigue!" — Juliana Stone, author of the Jaguar Warriors and upcoming League of Guardians "From start to finish, GLIMMER's one wild ride. I can't wait for the next Nina Decker story!" — Megan Hart, author of Selfish is the Heart Although Nina Decker’s father is one hundred percent human, her mother is not.
