This didn't seem to do well with movie-goers but I liked the gothic feel- the colors and sounds were much like the original- and the soundtrack was amazing. Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt made a great 'doomed' couple and the wolf transformations were spectacular. I never saw this in theaters but wish that I did. Instead, I curled up on the couch with my millions of fluffy pillows, popped some popcorn and enjoyed the DVD. I highly recommend that you do the same.
Here are just a few of my favorite lines:
Maleva- Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms, and the autumn moon is bright.
Gwen- It must be a wonderful luxury doing battle with imaginary demons, Mr. Talbot. Mine right now are very real.
Detective Aberline- Unfortunatley, "cursed" does not give me a warrant to wander around Sir John's estate at night. Rules Mrs. Kirk. They're all that keep us from a dog-eat-dog world, you know. Pint of bitter please.
Sir John Talbot- Oh, I cannot tell you how often I've considered that. But life is far too glorious, Lawrence, especially to the cursed and the damned, like myself.

I have not seen the movie but I will try to get it from netfix. It sounds good to me during the stormy monsoon nights.
I didn't catch this when it was in theaters either. Another one to add to the Netflix queue.
I saw it in the theater and loved the mood and feel of it, and most of the story, but didn't fall 'in love' with the whole thing. I liked that it was trying to look like an old movie, not something new and shiny and filled with CGI. And I do like Emily Blunt in most things.
I have a 7 year old, so rarely get to go see 'grown up' movies. I will get this on DVD one day.
Especially after you posted the quotes. I think I will like Det Aberline....
