It's my birthday! Release day news and contests!

Today is my 36th birthday (yipes!) and later this week I'll be going on a date with my son to go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We watched the first 6 movies over the Thanksgiving break so we're all ready to go.  This is the official last day to enter the Third Rule of Bite Club contest and the winner will be announced this weekend.

It's also release day for some really good series books (hooray!). To celebrate we are having a contest and the good folks at Simon & Schuster have generously offered a copy of each book for giveaway, 2 books, 2 winners. Just leave a comment sharing either your favorite birthday memory or your ideal birthday gift and I will toss your name in my magic hat. Or if that doesn't work for you just tell me what your favorite series is and why. All the official details will follow the post.

When you're staring evil in the eye, don't forget to watch your back . . . For the first time in forever, JaynÉ Heller's life is making sense. Even if she routinely risks her life to destroy demonic parasites that prey on mortals, she now has friends, colleagues, a trusted lover, and newfound confidence in the mission she inherited from her wealthy, mysterious uncle. Her next job might just rob her of all of them. At Grace Memorial Hospital in Chicago, something is stirring. Patients are going AWOL and research subjects share the same sinister dreams. Half a century ago, something was buried under Grace in a terrible ritual, and it's straining to be free. JaynÉ is primed to take on whatever's about to be let loose. Yet the greatest danger now may not be the huge, unseen force lurking below, but the evil that has been hiding in plain sight all along—taking her ever closer to losing her body, her mind, and her soul. . . .

Read chapter 1 here.

Other books in the series:

Unclean Spirits
Darker Angels

Zombies and Witches and Vamps . . . Oh, My! What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas—at least that's Delilah Street's hope. With Sin City's vampire and werewolf mobs wanting to cash in her chips once and for all, she's retreating with her partner Ric Montoya and half-wolfhound Quicksilver to her Kansas birthplace. Unfortunately, when it comes to finding trouble, there's no place like home. . . . It doesn't take long before Delilah realizes she's not in Vegas anymore. Zombie cowboys and spectral cattle drives are kicking up dust, the local weather girls are total witches who forecast perfect storms, and some Hollywood fanatic is recasting zombies as the greatest stars of the silver screen. And speaking of silver, Delilah's special affinity for the all-purpose monster-repellent leads her posse straight down a silver brick road—and into a notso- fun house of mirrors—putting her face-to-face with her dicey past and a mystery woman named Lilith, who's a real dead ringer for Delilah. The key word being dead.

Happy birthday. My birthday is the end of October and one year when I was in grade school my parents got small pumkins for my birthday party for everyone to carve.

Happy birthday! My favorite birthday memory was when I was 5 years old and my best friend made me a cupcake. He showed up covered in flour, batter, chocolate icing and sprinkles, but he proudly handed me the very misshapen and very large cupcake with the words 'Hapy Birdday' printed across it.

Happy birthday! I hope this is your best yet and you and your son have a great time on your movie date.

Hubby and I share the same birthday. My best birthday memory is from years ago (let's not say how many) when, two days following our mutual birthday, we got married. (It's a very crowded month for us, with all those celebrations!)

Happy birthday. My birthday was yesterday. My ideal birthday would be a complete day off, no cooking, no cleaning, nothing.

Happy Birthday!

My favorite birthday was when I got my first kitten. I actually got him the week before but he was the birthday gift. I had wanted one forever and had my first apartment on my own and was able to get one.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes! You guys are simply the best blogger friends a girl could ask for:)

@Lexie- Aww, what a sweet friend.

@Debbie- Happy Birthday! I hope you had a great day filled with fun.

@Sandie- I love the pumpkin idea! We did something like that when my son turned 5 only we used Sharpies to color instead of carve. Was your birthday always a Halloween/Fall thee or did you try to separate the celebrations? Just curious:)

@LSUReader- Sharing a birthday is pretty cool, adding an anniversary a few days later is awesome! Sounds like destiny to me:) My husband shares his birthday with our son and they celebrated last month. Now it's my turn and in 2 weeks we have our anniversary. Very crowded.

@donnas- I wish I could get a kitten! We have a very spoiled mastiff that probably would not like to share her people, not to mention that I tend to get really sneezy and itchy around cats. Doesn't stop me from asking for one every year though! I'd want a really sassy cat with loads of personality.

How boring am I? My favorite birthday gift is always books, LOL. This year for my birthday I did have an awesome present though. I had come across a fantastic recipe for cupcakes with pumpkin pie in the middle and mentioned it to my son. He had his fiance (with a little help from him) make me some for my birthday. I have to say they did a great job and the cupcakes were really yummy!
