Spooktacular Sunday: Thirst No. 1 by Christopher Pike

Thirst Human Urges. Fatal Consequences No. 1
By: Christopher Pike
What do you do if you are a 5,000 year old vampire, the last of your kind except for the being that created you, and someone is asking questions about you? Why kill the man that is asking questions about you and then fall in love with his son. Sounds easy right? Wrong, Sita is one of the first vampires ever made over 5,000 years ago. She knows that she is one of the last of her kind on the planet and believes she has the protection of Krishna from Yaksha, her creator, because she has not killed and turned any human into a vampire.  Well, when Yaksha starts to hunt her down she has to decide whether to break her rules to save someone she loves or not. In this story, volume one, many events are played out in the life of Sita. Some choices that she makes have good consequences for her and others do not. The one thing that is clear is that someone is hunting her and she has to enlist the help of certain humans to find out whom.
This book was an interesting vampire book because it follows the life of the ONE remaining vampire, who is able to control herself enough to just feed from humans and not kill them.  She is bound by the promise she made not to turn any more humans to vampires and this is an interesting twist.  She also has a huge conscious unless she is angered.  She feels empathy for certain humans and does try to help them.  The promise she has made to Krishna is a serious one for her and she struggles in the book to make choices that she feels will keep her under the protection of Krishna because she even after 5,000 years does not want to die.  There is a book number two so her adventures continue.

My son hates to read and in his 7th grade class he came acoss a Christopher Pike book called Alosha. He loved it and has gotten the 2nd(Shaktra) and 3rd(Yanti) book in that series and loves them. I will keep my eye out for this one

I was absolutely THRILLED to see this anthology at Borders! I have not been - nor will I allow myself to be - sucked into the world of "Sparkling Vampires". (Vampires don't "sparkle"...) I picked up this anthology less than 48 hours ago and am about 1/4 of the way into the third book, "Red Dice". Admittedly, I'd forgotten much of the storyline as it has been 15+ years since I first read the series, but it has been an absolute page turner. The storyline is so simple, yet very powerful. The characters come to life. And, as it is written entirely in first person, it is a refreshing change from the other series of books I'm working my way though.
