Review: Blood Trinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love

Book description:

An outcast among Beladors, Evalle Kincaid has walked the line between human and beast her whole life. Her origins unknown, she’s on a quest to learn more about her past . . . and her future.

When a demon claims a young woman in a terrifying attack and there’s no one else to blame, Evalle comes under suspicion. Now she’s on a deadly quest for her own survival and forced to work with a man who has the power to unravel her world. Through the sordid underground of an alternate Atlanta where nothing is as it seems to the front lines of the city, where her former allies have joined forces to hunt her, Evalle must prove her innocence or pay the ultimate price.

But saving herself is the least of her problems if she doesn’t stop the coming apocalypse. The clock is ticking and Atlanta is about to catch fire.

Jenny's review:

All her life Evalle Kincaid has been an outcast. She doesn’t fit in the human world, since she is not, and doesn’t fit in the supernatural world, because to them she is an outcast. As an Alterant, nobody fully trusts her, not even the Beladors, the group that she works for.  She does, however, continue to work hard and fears mostly that they will blame her for something that she did not do, and lock her into a cage. In this book she is forced to hunt for the Ngak Stone so that the Beladors can lock it away.  But when she is paired up with Storm, who she's not quite sure she can trust (but has feelings for) and meets Tristan (another Alterant that was caged and who makes her doubt who she should help) Evalle cannot quite decide what to do.  Will she make a choice that she can live with and won’t make the powers that be lock her up again?

I thought that this book was good. I was sort of confused at first trying to figure out who the characters were and what their background stories were. It sort of jumped right into action and I had to figure everything out on my own. The story line is great as far as being action packed, because the main character is being hunted by either a magical power, or the people she works for. She is always trying to prove herself to someone and herself. I liked how the main character Evalle grew through the book, because in the end she really did find herself and proved what she needed to everyone.  The book is full of details, some small that you will want to make sure you catch so that you can keep up with what is happening.

Romantic Reading: The Dark Hunters series

My Valentine's Day salute to romance:

If I had to pick one series that is capable of highlighting almost every emotion known to man, and then some, I'd choose the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. These books will absolutely break your heart and then fill it full. On any given page you might laugh, cry, hate, love, wonder, dream, yearn, but most of all you will be thoroughly enthralled from beginning to end. This isn't a peaceful world to visit and the fighting is plentiful and intense, surpassed only by the relationships developed in each new story. The writing is so much more than words on a page, these characters become your friends, and the world becomes your own. The Dark-Hunters bring to light the harsh realities of living and surviving, sharing universal truths about life and death, but most of all they are a testament to the healing power of love.

My top 3:

*Kiss of the Night (Wulf and Cassandra)

*Sins of the Night (Alexion and Danger)

*Acheron (Ash and Tory)

Review: No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Book Description:

Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there’s a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she’s ever faced before.

Shapeshifter Dev Peltier has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years and in that time, he’s seen it all. Or so he thought. Now their enemies have discovered a new source of power- one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date.

The war is on and Dev and Sam are guarding ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules and pray it doesn’t unravel the universe as we know it.

Review with minimal spoilers:

This was another superb effort from Sherrilyn Kenyon and any fears that the Dark Hunter universe might be played out have proven groundless. Every new installment continues to keep me guessing and I wouldn't have it any other way. Yeah, I know, they usually end up in some sort of eternally-ever-after, but I never know how they will end up together. Some struggle more with the concept of falling in love, some fight the past or internal demons, and others simply fight. In the DH world it is all about the journey. As per the norm, for every question answered several more pop up, and since Nick shows up quite a bit that means the reader is given many new and exciting plot twists to ponder.

Dev has always been a favorite secondary character, as are most of the Peltier clan. Their sense of family and loyalty dominates their personalities, although each has a defined individuality. All the bears are fierce, strong, dominating, and Dev is no exception. I love his smartass mouth and oddly enough, his optimistic disposition. You would think that after all the heartache and loss that Dev has witnessed that he might be jaded but he is a glass half full kind of guy. He even tells Sam that things can always get better. Even in the worst of circumstances he finds humor.

Sam is part of the machiskyli, the Dogs of War, a tough as nails group that has been tasked to train and protect Nick. She possesses the rare talent of psychometry, the ability to feel the memories and emotions of others. Her talent is so strong that Ash has to make her clothes and shoes special and she usually wears gloves so that she doesn't accidentally touch something. In fact, Sam's psychometry is so strong that she rarely eats because she gets memories from the animals. Of course, Dev is like a dead zone for her so she relishes being able to freely touch and to some degree Dev can shield her.

I thought Dev and Sam were given a brilliant story and I loved every minute of them together. The inclusion of favorite characters like Ash, Nick, and Stryker made the story even better. Since I am committed to having very few spoilers in my reviews (it's killing me to keep quiet about some stuff) I will just say that the DH universe is going to get more complicated before it gets better.

Contest for No Mercy: What's Your Sanctuary?

Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there's a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she's ever faced before.

Shapeshifter Dev Peltier has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years and in that time, he's seen it all. Or so he thought. Now their enemies have discovered a new source of power- one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date.

The war is on and Dev and Sam are guarding ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules and pray it doesn't unravel the universe as we know it.

Check out this trailer! I'll admit that I don't usually jive on book videos but this one isn't so bad and Dev is looking pretty good to me. It's worth the 30 seconds for sure. Let me know what you think! Book trailers? Yea or nay?

Many a Kenyon fan has said that that they have found sanctuary in her books throughout the years. Her fans also know about The Sanctuary, the fictional New Orleans bar in the Dark-Hunter world. Avid readers will often say that books provide a great retreat...that the release of a new book from a favorite author can make one's day...that there's nothing better than suspending disbelief and allowing oneself to sink into a storyline or a fantasy world.

What's your sanctuary? Perhaps it's playing Rock Band on Xbox or settling into an episode of Star Trek. Perhaps you love spin class or heading to the park to sketch. Have your readers tell us about their sanctuary and why. Randomly selected readers will receive a copy of NO MERCY.

So there you have it. Leave me a comment sharing your sanctuary story and you could win a copy of No Mercy!

*This contest is open to residents of the US and Canada.
*Contest will run until November 7th
