I have always been fascinated with mythology. Celtic mythology in particular.  Probably my Irish roots calling to me.  I love reading about the Druids, Merlin and King Arthur, Stonehenge, Tristan and Isolde, and of course all the stories about faeries, dwarves and elves.  It’s this fascination that fuelled my passion to write my urban fantasy GLIMMER.

In my book though, the faeries are anything but winged whimsical creatures.  No in my book, they are dark and dangerous  and more prone to destroy than create.  And at its center is a woman name Nina who is half fae-half human and trying to come to terms with her dark alien side.  I love messing around with the concept of duality.  And Glimmer is definitely that.

The world I created relies a lot on my love of Brian Froud’s artwork and the innovative mind of Guillermo del Toro.  Both creative geniuses in my opinion.  Froud’s faeries have this alienness about them.  They aren’t the cute playful version we’ve all grown up with.  Tinker Bell won’t get no play here.  Del Toro’s creatures from Pan’s Labyrinth and Hell Boy movies are a combination of the grotesque and the beautiful.  And that’s how I wanted to portray the fae in my world of Glimmer.  Prince Nuada would fit in just fine in my book.
