Boone Brux blog tour stop and contest

Today we are part of the Boone Brux blog tour to celebrate the release of Shield of Fire from Entangled Publishing. I also have one ecopy of Shield of Fire to send out to one lucky reader. In part of today's interview Icarus plays a little word association game so I thought it might be fun to play a version of that in the comments. Tell me the first word that pops into your head when you see the cover of this book and I will toss your name into that hat for your chance to win. It's that easy. What word do I think of? Rough. Think what you will *wink*

Now, let's welcome Boone and Icarus...

Demon Bane army, Icarus. Welcome.

Icarus: I’d say it’s a pleasure, Boone…but it’s not.

Boone: Well, I appreciate you taking time out of your busy soul-sucking schedule to be
here. So let’s jump right in. Is it safe to say you have the hots for Ravyn?

Icarus: Safe? Nothing with me is ever safe. I don’t have the hots, as you say, for Ravyn.
I need her. (Interviewer wiggles eyebrows.) Her powers, not her affection.

Boone: Riiiight, her powers. Your dad, the Demon King, seems very determined to have
Ravyn as well. Isn’t he irritated by your insubordination? I mean, he doesn’t come across
as the forgiving type.

Icarus: Actually, I hadn’t informed him of my plans to usurp the throne. You must admit
that I’d be a much better king than he is.

Boone: If by better you mean more ruthless, then yeah, you da man. Particularly loved
the way you drained that poor girl of her soul in chapter one.

Icarus: I thought I was rather gentle.

Boone: Uhh, no.

Icarus: It’s your fault I am the way I am. You created me.

Boone: Did not. You walked fully formed onto the page. I tried to make you ugly and
deformed, but you refused, insisting on gold rings in your hair and a chiseled bone
structure. Right away I knew you were a prima donna.

Icarus: I’m unfamiliar with this term. No matter. Next question.

Boone: What’s up with you and that she-demon, Sha-hera? She’s a nasty piece of work.

Icarus: Finally, something we agree on. If it takes the rest of my life, I will find a way to
kill that bitch.

Boone: I think she has the hots for you. (Silence and icy stare ensues) Are you snarling at
me?

Icarus: Be thankful that’s all I’m doing. Next subject.

Boone: Fine, let’s do a brief word association game. I’ll say a word and you say the first
thing that pops into your head, okay? (crickets chirping) I’m going to take your silence as

a yes. First word—puppies.

Icarus: Snack

Boone: Father

Icarus: Imbecile

Boone: Mother

Icarus: (Bares fangs in place of answer)

Boone: Rhys

Icarus: Bothersome

Boone: Ravyn

Icarus: Mine

Boone: Souls

Icarus: Mine

Boone: Throne

Icarus: Mine

Boone: I see a pattern emerging here. Well, thank you for being with us today, Icarus. I
know it’s difficult to get away when you’re in the thick of battling for world domination.

Icarus: Yes it is. You should be very grateful.

Boone: Until next time, this is Boone Brux and Icarus, wishing you a happy holiday.

Icarus: I wish no such thing.

Boone: Shut-up, demon spawn.

Guest post with Lisa Kessler

Proud to be a Vamp Chick….

Hi everyone -

Thanks to the Vamp Chix for inviting me to the Bite Club today!

I think my love for vampires started in High School with two 80's movies.  Can you guess which ones?  Yep, The Lost Boys and Fright Night.  Until those movies, I'd never seen vampires portrayed as sexy bad boys, and my teen heart fluttered.

As I got older, I dove into the more gothic Vampire Chronicles from Anne Rice.  I loved the dark, tortured vampires, struggling to find meaning in a never-ending existence.  The only thing that bothered me was the whole impotence thing.  I'm assuming this isn't a spoiler because all vamp chix have read the Vampire Chronicles right?

If not, stop reading now and skip down to comment! LOL

So anyway, while Anne Rice explained the situation going on in the vampires' pants, no heart to pump blood = no erection, I REALLY wanted them to be able to be physical when they loved one another.

Enter Christine Feehan and Maggie Shayne…  Now here were blood-drinking immortals who had sex!  And thus my love affair with paranormal romance began.

The only thing I was missing was the little dose of fear that I enjoyed from horror novels.
When I wrote Night Walker, I wanted to write a vampire romance novel with a race of immortals that were not from Europe, and I wanted the villain to scare me.  The result is my new paranormal romance that was just released this month!

Here's a little taste…

Calisto has been alive for over two hundred years, waiting to find his murdered love again.  The night their paths finally cross on Dia de los Muertos, he recognizes her instantly, but she has no conscious memory of him.

So while Calisto aches to pull her into his arms, he's forced to keep his distance…

Book Description:

He gave up his soul for a second chance to love her…
Two and a half centuries ago, Calisto Terana lost everything when a zealous priest murdered the woman he loved. Now, desperate for another chance to love her, he wants redemption for the mistake that cost her life.
She's haunted by dreams of her own death…
After catching her fiance with another woman, Kate Bradley returns to San Diego to clear her head. The last thing she needs is romance, but after meeting Calisto she's drawn to him in ways she doesn't understand.
They've waited in the shadows for centuries…
Calisto has no doubt Kate is the reincarnation of his lost love, but the Fraternidad Del Fuego Santo has a new watcher with dark ambitions of his own. As old enemies reemerge and a new threat arises, the betrayal that enslaved Calisto to the night might destroy the only woman he's ever loved again.

EXCERPT:
Kate watched them wander off before kneeling closer to the cross. Unable to stop herself, she traced her finger along the T in the center.
Behind her, someone cleared his throat. Kate jerked her hand away and shot to her feet. When she turned around she found a tall, dark-haired man staring at her.
Her cheeks flushed with heat. She hoped he hadn't witnessed her touching the relic. She waited for some kind of admonishment, but he didn't say anything.
Not with words.
Something in his dark eyes captured her. His gaze wandered over her face like a tender caress, and strangely, instead of screaming for Lori and Edie, she caught herself imagining his touch on her skin.
“I hope I did not frighten you,” he said.
His deep voice resonated through the empty courtyard, and the intimate tone weakened her knees. The hint of a Spanish accent didn't hurt, either. Nervous laughter escaped her before she could contain it.
Her face warmed all over again. “Just a little startled. I didn't see anyone else out here.”
He stepped closer without encroaching on her personal space, his eyes locked with hers from beneath thick lashes. “Forgive me.”
She swallowed hard and prayed she wasn't blushing. “No problem.” She looked away before she embarrassed herself even further, focusing on the cross. “It's beautiful isn't it?”
Si.” He nodded slowly. “Yes, it is.” His barely there smile made her think he wasn't referring to the flowers or the cross. “I am Calisto. Calisto Terana.”
Expectation hung as heavy as the scent of eucalyptus, as if he waited to hear something more than just her name.
“I'm Kate.” Instead of offering to shake his hand, she tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “It's nice to meet you.”
“The honor is mine, Kate... ” His accent colored the vowel in her name. It had never sounded more beautiful. She reminded herself to breathe.
When he hesitated for a moment waiting for her to speak, she realized she hadn't shared her last name as he had. She flipped through a rapid pro and con mental checklist, and decided it couldn't hurt. Maybe they would meet again.
“Bradley,” she said.
A sexy smile curved at the corners of his lips. “I hope this will not be our last meeting.”
She glanced around the shadowed courtyard, feeling vulnerable, and almost gave in to her first instinct--to run. But she remembered her promise to herself. Be strong. Take action. She lifted her chin and said, “I guess you never know.”
With a smile that said he had every intention of seeing her again, he tipped his head. “Buenos noches, Kate Bradley.”
Her heart raced and her palms sweated when she realized he meant to leave. No man made her palms sweat. Ever.

His gaze held hers for a moment, full of unspoken promises she didn't understand. Without another word, he walked away.

Thanks for inviting me to the Bite Club!!!

So who was your first vampire love? I'd love to hear…

Out in Blue guest post and contest

I'm so happy to welcome Sarah Gilman to the blog today and at the end of this post we are giving away one e-copy of Out in Blue. So leave a comment relating to fangs, nothing too dirty, and I will draw a winner this weekend.

Fangs

A big thanks to the Bite Club for hosting today! I thought it would be appropriate to talk about fangs for my guest post.

Fangs are usually associated with vampire characters for the obvious purpose of bloodsucking. Romance writers have taken vampires and their dark eating habits and have spun many delicious, unforgettable romances. Vampires have a long history in literature and stories often had sexual overtones, though in ways that served the era. I love how vampires in literature have evolved, and I doubt I’ll ever tire of them.

Sometimes a character’s fangs are fixed in place, sometimes they retract. Personally, I prefer the fixed fangs. When I write or read paranormal stories, I like to see the characters deal with the mixed blessing of their features. This is why, in my debut novel Out in Blue, I chose to give my archangel characters wings that did not disappear at convenient times. Same goes for my demon characters, who have an upper and lower set of fixed fangs, like cats.

These demons aren’t bloodsuckers. The fangs deliver venom in a bite deadly to humans. My demon characters are immune to their own venom, so death won’t result if they bite their tongues…or each other! The second book in the series will feature two demon protagonists. The story will explore additional characteristics of my demons, their venom, and the ways a bite might not be such as bad thing.

RETURN TO SANCTUARY - Book One

In a violent world where fallen archangels are hunted for their valuable
plumage, Wren knows one thing for certain: the human woman who
saved him from a poacher attack will die if she stays with him. The de‐
mon responsible for his parents’ gruesome deaths two decades ago
pines for the chance to rip apart any woman who stands under Wren’s
wing.

Wren doesn’t expect Ginger to stay by his side once she discovers his
ability to drain life with a mere touch, yet she lingers. When an unusual
talent of her own reveals the location of Wren’s father, Wren’s isolated
world implodes.

With the help of the demon protectors he’s sworn never to trust again,
Wren risks everything to rescue his father, confront the demon who
stalks his and Ginger’s every step, and claim his eternity with the most
courageous woman he’s ever known.

About the author:

Sarah Gilman started her first novel in third grade. She never finished that story,
but never gave up the dream. Her fascination with wings also began at that age,
when images of the ancient Egyptian goddess Isis captured her imagination and
never let go.

Now a paranormal romance writer, she employs her love of writing to bring the
allure of winged creatures to the pages of her novels. Sarah lives in Vermont with
her supportive husband and two spoiled cats.

About the publisher:
Entangled Publishing is an exclusive, boutique publisher of romantic fiction. Located in Fort Collins, Colorado, Entangled's goal is to bridge the gap between traditional and indie publishing, giving both readers and authors the best of both worlds.
