Quick contest for Halo Hunter

I announced our side read for June yesterday...it's the Nocturne Bites from Michele Hauf called Halo Hunter, just in case you missed the post. The novella is only available in the e-format which brings me to the subject of this post and leads nicely into our contest question.

E-books are big business these days and I am slow to catch up with technology. I really want to get a device but I'm not sure which one would suit me best and my goal is to avoid spending money on a million different gadgets. There are just so many platforms to choose from and each has benefits that I enjoy but no one device has everything I want and feel like I need. Since I am currently reading e-books on my laptop, and my eyes are slowly bleeding, it's not exactly enticing me to read more.

How does this relate to Halo Hunter and a contest? Simple. Michele has a coupon for a free download of Halo Hunter to giveaway and I want to know how you feel about e-readers. Leave a comment sharing your views about e-books or what e-reader you think is the best and be entered to win. Told you it was easy:)

Official rules:
*contest open until midnight EST June 16th and the winner will be announced the following day
*must leave a comment about e-books or readers to be entered
*please leave an email address if one is not included in your profile

I held out for a long time without an eReader. I finally bought one last month because there are many books I wanted to read there were only available in digital form (like the Nocturne Bites). I've never like reading on my laptop. So, I bought a B&N Nook.

Honestly, I didn't do much comparison shopping. My husband is a gadget guy, and he thought it was a good choice. I really liked the touch pad on the Nook, so I went with it. So far, it's been great. I love it, but I'll always love paper books too!

I love e-readers, though I think it would be sad to see less paper books out in the world. But why? If we had more ebook and less paper books wouldn't we be helping the plight of trees? These are the things I think about. :) But still I would miss having that physical book in my hands, the smell of the paper, etc. I don't have an e-reader...yet. I read all my ebooks on my phone which is good enough for now. ;) The day I buy an e-reader it will be a Kindle. I've already amassed a collection of Kindle books for my Kindle for PC.

Don't pick me to win, because I'll probably never buy one of the devices. I'm a paper person.

Electronics break. Books, not so much.

I love my Kindle but I also love my paperbacks. I like that books are cheaper for the Kindle because sometimes I'm not sure if I'll like a book or not so being able to buy it at a reasonable price helps me make my decision. Then again I love my actual books because I like the smell of them, the feel of them and the way they look on my bookshelf. As much as I love my Kindle I would never want to see the end of bookstores!

I received my Kindle as a gift in Oct and so far have read over 200 books on it - I move them to my PC so I can get them back on it anytime. I really love it because I don't have to wait for books to come in the mail or make the trip to B and N and they don't have the books I want. I take it with me everywhere and read at any spare moment.

I don't have an eletronic book - but I downloaded Kindle for PC and love it. I really love holding books in my hand, smelling the paper and feeling the weight of a book...but times are a changing and so are the forms that a book can take. One major plus side to electronic books is that you can have hundreds of them and not have to build another room onto the house to store them!

Have had my Kindle DX for several months, can't live without it. Checked out several - the main reasons that I went with the Kindle are:
1. Free whispernet connection - if I want a book at 2 in the morning, or riding the bus, I can go the Amazon online store and buy it, start reading in minutes. And no computer or phone line needed.
2. Automatic read PDF - this was a big factor for me. I have a collection of books that I read on the computer. And PDF was the most common format.
3. Kindle will read several formats: TXT, PDF, MOBI, PRC. And you can convert via Amazon: DOC, HTML, TXT, RTF. (They will also convert PDF into AZW - I have done this if the print was to small to read.)
4. The adjustable font size. After reading for a long time I get eye strain - (to vain for glasses) I can increase the size of the font, without losing my place in the book.

Only downside: I selected the larger Kindle. Perfect for me, I wanted the bigger screen. But it is to large to slip into my purse. If you carry a large purse, this might not be a problem. I made a slip cover with a handle for my Kindle and have no problems.
I love my Kindle.

I got my Sony ereader about a month ago and love it. I don't know why I waited so long to get one. And its a great space saver.I've been running out of room for all my paperbacks. Now I can just buy my book online and get it right away and read.
I haven't tried any other readers.I did a little research and asked around and most people I spoke to had a Sony.

Hi Anna! I'm glad you brought up this topic because I've been going back and forth with this for a while myself. I went to dinner with my family tonight for my birthday and a heated discussion was had about this subject.

Right now it's a toss up between the Kindle and the Nook. Like with any decision each one has pros and cons for me. So I have a question for all the e-reader owners. I know you all love your devices for several reasons but, if you had to pick two of your biggest pet peeves what would they be??

I love e-readers. I'm happy that there is finally a proper market for them. We had one years ago that came out, but the store that it was associated with disappeared and support for the device went away as well. Now, with so many places selling e-books and so many devices, it will stick around.

I held out for a long time as well. I finally bought a Sony touch screen reader. it's fantastic. I've been able to use books from a number of different stores on it(except Amazon and B&N). It's great for traveling. My last trip i was able to read like 4 books between travel time and before bed. That would have been a lot of extra weight to carry around if it was regular books.

If it's a series that I love and know I will always want to re-read, I want the book in paperback, so it can sit on my shelves (like Lynsay Sands books, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Katie MacAlister, etc). But I have started getting into ebooks - I actually have a bunch. And some authors/publishers prefer giving ebooks out to reviewers instead of print books.

So I broke down and asked for an ereader for Christmas last year. I went super cheap - the 85 dollar eBookwise. It does well enough. It stores only 300 books (but I back up all my books on my computer and switch them out as necessary), has 10 hours of reading time (you can read while it charges, as well), but no wireless. However, now that I'm getting more into ebooks (I have so many good ones!), I need to look into purchasing a better device.

I already bought Halo Hunter, but wanted to share what I read e-books on. I have an iPhone (used the iPod Touch before that) and really like reading on it. You can adjust the brightness, text size, etc, and I have 7 e-reader apps - my favorite being Amazon's Kindle and Stanza. Through Stanza any Word or PDF or epub doc can be put on it - I have over 150 right now. If you want bigger, go for the iPad - that's next on my list :)
